Ottawa, Ontario – Thousands of fans roamed the streets of the exhibition place for the 2017 Honda Indy Toronto. The weekend was off to a great start Saturday morning during qualifiers for the Ultra 94 Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge, showing off the speed of the Mark Motors cars.
Race 1 brought excitement as driver Roman De Angelis battled back and forth to hold his position, ultimately finishing 6th overall in his generation 1 car and coming in 2nd place in Gold. Chasing the leader was Zach Robichon who was looking to overcome Hargrove for a second time this season. He fought hard and finished the race 2nd overall. Also fighting to keep his position was Marco Cirone who had tough competition out on the track! It wasn’t enough to hold him back however, as he took top spot at the podium in Platinum Masters and 4th overall. “Special thanks to the Bestline crew! We have been fighting with adjustments on the car and this particular race they gave me a fantastic car” said Cirone. “I’m so happy to have raced in front of family and friends in Toronto! A special thanks to Mark Motors as well!”
Sunday’s race brought hope and another chance for Robichon to take on the series leader Scott Hargrove. Fans were on the edge of their seats as Robichon’s laps grew tighter and tighter to Hargrove. “We had a really great run in Toronto this weekend” said Robichon. “Although we didn’t come away with overall victories two 2nd place finishes were very rewarding considering the very strong pace we showed. I was overly cautious with lapped traffic which eventually cost us in both races but the Mark Motors car was really unbelievable all weekend. We showed our ultimate pace by setting the race lap record in the Sunday race but wasn’t quite enough after a poor start. It sets the stage for another street course battle at Trois-Rivières that we are more then ready for!” Meanwhile Cirone had his focus on fighting to get back his spot in P4. Just behind him was De Angelis who was surrounded by the competition, all eager to pass the young star. De Angelis had many battles on the track to pass. Just after fellow Gold car hit the wall and left the race, the #78 car started experiencing fuel pump issues which ended up stalling De Angelis car and he had to drive into the pit and end his race. “This weekend was a bit of a mixed bag for me” said De Angelis. “Definitely not pleased with Saturday’s outcome between lapped traffic and getting stuck behind slower cars, it just didn’t go our way. The track is difficult to pass so a bit of luck and timing is also required. Sunday’s race was much better for us making a clean start and after battling with Sanderson we finally managed to get by him and extend a very comfortable lead over Raimondo. On a positive note it was very nice to finally be able to have a strong competitor in Gold and fight for the win. As always the Bestline boys gave me a perfect car and special thanks as always to the Mark Motors Group for this opportunity.” Race 2 finished under caution with Robichon on the podium in 2nd place, Cirone 1st in Platinum Masters and 5th overall, and De Angelis 1st in Gold and 11th overall.
