Cirone and Robichon

OTTAWA, Ontario (June 6, 2016) – The largest and most prestigious race weekend in Canada is on the horizon, and Mark Motors Racing is ready.

The team currently holds the lead in two different championships in the Ultra94 Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Canada by Yokohama, and drivers Zacharie Robichon and Marco Cirone are hungry to come away from the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal, Quebec, having added to their early success this season.

Robichon, a native of Ottawa, Ontario, comes off his debut with the team and the series with a win under his belt and the lead in the Platinum Class point standings. He looks to capitalize on several years of experience at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in junior open-wheel racing, an advantage he hopes can work in his favour in the first-ever joint weekend between Porsche GT3 Cup Canada and the American equivalent, the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA by Yokohama.

“I think Montreal will be a very exciting weekend,” Robichon says. “The combined field should make for some very intense races. I’ll look to hit the ground running and surprise some of the American drivers who will see me as the new kid.

“We’ll have our work cut out for us with some very strong competition, but the Mark Motors Racing crew is up for the challenge. Racing at the Canadian Grand Prix in front of all those fans is truly a feeling like no other. I can’t wait.”

Cirone, an Italian born racer who resides in Toronto, holds the Canadian Platinum Masters championship lead and sits second overall in the point standings. He returns to Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve this weekend looking not only to retain that lead but also to continue scoring points toward the inaugural North American Cup, a joint initiative between the Canadian and American series launched by sanctioning body IMSA for this season.

“I’m looking forward to racing at the famous Montreal grand prix circuit,” Cirone says. “It’s a track that I’ve had the opportunity to run on before in Porsche GT3 Cup Canada, and I’m very comfortable with its high speed straights. In fact, the faster a circuit is, the more I like it!

“Zach and I have worked incredibly well together, and we have the confidence to perform extremely well heading into these races. We look forward to a great weekend.”

The Ultra94 Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Canada by Yokohama will race twice during its second race weekend of the year, the Canadian Grand Prix weekend at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal. Race 1 goes green at 4:30 PM ET on Saturday, June 11, and race 2 is scheduled for 10:00 AM ET on Sunday, June 12. Both can be viewed live via streaming at imsa.com.
