Ottawa, ON – The Mark Motors Racing team was out in full force this weekend for the Ultra 94 CT3 Cup Challenge by Yokohama. Teammates Roman De Angelis and Zach Robichon took turns on the first and second step of the podium in the two platinum races on June 9th and 10th. The races were a part of the Formula One Canadian Grand Prix at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal.
In the first of two Porsche GT3 Cup Canada races, De Angelis started in the pole position after two successful practice sessions. His biggest contender in the race was teammate Robichon, who maintained his position behind De Angelis throughout the race, ultimately placing second. Out of the five races this session, this is the team’s fourth 1-2 finish.
“I am really proud of setting the track record for pole and it is just a testament to the entire Mark Motors and Bestline crew,” said De Angelis. “It’s a good feeling to be chased and be the benchmark for times. Robichon is a talented teammate and I am comfortable racing wheel to wheel with him at the pace we were at.”
Robichon entered the weekend undefeated on the season and quickly recovered his lead in the second Porsche GT3 Cup Canada race. De Angelis was a strong opponent in the first few corners, but Robichon was able to take the lead before the first lap was complete. Once more the Mark Motors team collected their second 1-2 finish of the weekend, this time with Robichon atop the podium and De Angelis in 2nd.
“There’s nothing quite like the Montreal Grand Prix, and this year we celebrated 70 years of Porsche with Sportscar Together Day which raised the excitement in the GT3 Cup paddock,” said Robichon. “To be back on the top step was a huge achievement especially with the competition within the team. This is lining up to be an amazing season and I couldn’t be happier with where myself and the Mark Motors team are sitting at the halfway point in the season.”
“The team fought hard this weekend, primarily against one another, and the results prove it,” said Liza Mrak, executive vice-president, Mark Motors Group. “As we are half way through the 2018 season, we are proud of our team and how they have been performing. We are excited to see similar results going into the Honda Indy Toronto in July.”
