With only four races left in the 2019 edition of the Porsche GT3 Cup Canada, Mark Motors Racing has a firm grasp on first place with Roman De Angelis holding a 40+ point lead over the second spot.
This weekend presents a rare challenge as American drivers will join the pack and push the field to 43 cars at Road America. With the added competition in Wisconsin, it will be quite interesting to see the Canadian and US drivers mix with one another.
De Angelis is perfect this year with additional racers on the track. At the Grand Prix in Montreal, Roman reigned supreme by taking the top podium spot in both races that weekend. So, it’s no surprise the confident young driver is ready to get started at Road America.
“Looking forward to Road America,” expressed De Angelis.
“These American events are a lot of fun with more cars and more competition. Always a bit more interesting with 40 cars trying to go into turn 1. So hopefully we can do the same thing we did in Montreal, but we’ll see what Road America brings for us.”
Travelling to Plymouth, Wisconsin as well, Platinum Masters standout Marco Cirone will look to add to his success against the Americans. The number 88 car driver joined Roman on the podium, in third, after the first race in Montreal in June.
Marco and the team also have history at Road America with several great showings there in the past.
“Returning to Road America is so exciting for us. When we saw it on the schedule, we were all very happy,” he explained.
“Our first year of cup racing back in 2010 gave us an opportunity to experience this amazing high-speed track. We had a few podiums here and we will be looking to do the same almost 10 years later. Hoping for good fortune in beautiful Wisconsin!”
Race Information
The Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Canada by Yokohama will race twice this weekend at Road America in Plymouth, Wisconsin. Race #1 will start at 12:20PM EST Saturday, August 3rd, followed by Race #2 at 10:30AM EST on Sunday, August 4th.
