Ottawa, ON—In a stunning performance, the Mark Motors race team ends the racing season victorious! Zacharie Robichon was crowned the Ultra 94 Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge by Yokohama series champion on Saturday, after his 10th win of the season. Roman De Angelis remained hot on Robichon’s heels throughout the weekend, securing second place on the podium next to Robichon in yet another sweep for the Mark Motors duo.
It’s been an incredible season for the Mark Motors Race team. From the first race in Florida in March, the Mark Motors Race team has excelled on tracks across Quebec and Ontario. After posting his 10th first place finish, Robichon earned the ensuing champagne shower from teammate De Angelis.
“2018 has been an incredible year,” said Robichon. “Mark Motors has achieved something that has never been done before in winning all 12 races. Being able to help this team achieve that this year has been an absolute pleasure. Securing the championship with a weekend sweep was my way of thanking the team and putting an exclamation point on this incredible year. They’ve consistently provided us with great cars, and it was no different this weekend at CTMP.”
After finishing a close second, Roman looked back on his year racing alongside his teammate. “I can truly hold my head up high finishing second to such an accomplished driver. He has been a great friend and mentor on and off track, and has made me a better driver. Wins and championships are important, but for me, at 17, it’s about gaining the skills and advancing my career, and this year was all about that.”
De Angelis—the youngest driver on the track—put down a season to be proud of. He was a near constant fixture on the podium throughout the race and displayed an impressive level of skill and consistency throughout the year.
“It has been a great year as always with the entire Mark Motors bestline crew,” said De Angelis. “I feel as a team we were in a league of our own the entire season. To finish so far ahead in the standings is a true testament to the entire group. We had some good clean battles and those now continue in the USA series as well. Can’t wait to see what next year brings!”
The Mark Motors Race alumni team excelled throughout the season as well, with veteran drivers Pierre Bortolotti and Marco Cirone taking the top spot on the podium once again. Cirone and Bortolotti have carried the Mark Motors colours since 2013 when Mark Motors first entered the GT3 Cup and, six years later, they continue to excel.
Liza Mrak, Executive Vice President of Mark Motors Group, was thrilled with the season saying, “the Mark Motors team continues to make us proud. This year’s win makes this the 5th consecutive championship for the Mark Motors team—and it’s all possible because it’s been an all-round team effort. Our drivers, track team, and support staff work seamlessly to produce the best result possible: another championship win. Congratulations to the entire race team!”
