Ottawa, Ontario – It was a race weekend that had everyone on their toes! With the rainy weather came a wet, more difficult track that put Race 1 to a screeching halt when a multicar-pileup sent drivers to the hospital. Luckily, there were no life threatening injuries however Race 1 was cancelled and 10 cars did not return to the track for Race 2 on Saturday, July 1st during the combined USA/Canada Ultra 94 Porsche GT3 Cup race weekend.
With the wet weather looming, the track was not ideal but Salen’s Six Hours of the Glen continued. While some have had more experience in these conditions, driver Zach Robichon started off Race 2 playing it safe. “At the beginning of the race I was taking it slow because it was my first time driving a Porsche in the rain.” Said Robichon. “Once the track started to dry up I got more confident and that’s when I started to make my moves on Jake [Eidson] and Scott [Hardgrove]. The Mark Motors car was fantastic as always and that’s thank to the crew at Bestline!” Zach and the crew received the recognition they deserved when Robichon crossed the finish line 1st overall with his first series victory in Platinum.
Not far behind him was Marco Cirone, who is successfully defending his title as he clinched another 1st place finish in Platinum Masters. “An incredible weekend for the Mark Motors Racing team sweeping every category in Sunday’s rain filled race!” said Cirone. “Special thanks to Bestline for such well-prepared racecars. I just want to wish a speedy recovery to all drivers involved in Saturday’s unfortunate accident.”
Also celebrating a victorious Canada Day weekend was Roman De Angelis, who continues to amaze as he took his place at the top of the podium for his fifth consecutive win in Gold. “This was the best Canada day by far!” said De Angelis. “Even though the weather conditions made the track difficult, thanks to Mark Motors and the Bestline crew, I was able to pull through and finish on the podium!. Special thanks to the entire IMSA team and medical staff dealing with Friday’s crash in a very professional manner, hats off to the entire team!”
Overall, Canada was well represented in Watkin’s Glen, New York by the Mark Motors Racing team! All this was possible thanks to their incredible crew at Bestline Auto.
Stay tuned and follow Mark Motors Racing for their next race weekend at the Toronto Honda Indy, July 15th-16th.
