OTTAWA, Ontario – Mark Motors Racing and its drivers, Zacharie Robichon and Marco Cirone, will join the fray on Victoria Day weekend, May 20 to 22, as the 2016 Ultra94 Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Canada by Yokohama season gets under way as part of Victoria Day SpeedFest at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.
Mark Motors will once again field a pair of Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars in Platinum Class and looks forward to a fantastic battle for the title against a field that promises to be the most competitive the series has seen since its inception in 2011.
This year, the team welcomes Zacharie Robichon of Ottawa, Ontario, who will make his series debut in the No. 78 Mark Motors entry. Robichon is new to sports car racing but is no stranger to North America’s fastest road course, having turned many laps at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in open-wheel formula cars over the past several years.
“I can’t wait to start the 2016 season,” Robichon says. “To have the opportunity to race with Mark Motors, my hometown Porsche and Audi dealership, really is a dream come true. I remember going there as a kid hoping one day to drive one of their cars, but I couldn’t have imagined it being for their race team.
“It’s going to be a steep learning curve for me, but I know this team will give me the best possible opportunity to succeed.”
Joining Robichon as teammate is veteran racer Marco Cirone, who will return to the Mark Motors No. 88 machine. Born in Italy and currently residing in Toronto, Ontario, Cirone is the reigning Platinum Masters champion and arrives at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park with a pair of class wins under his belt from the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA season opener at Sebring this past March.
“I feel so honoured and privileged to be behind the wheel of the Mark Motors 991 for yet another season,” Cirone says. “Together with my very talented teammate and our highly skilled engineers and technicians, we believe we have what it takes to be competitive.
“Our goal is nothing less than to win both the Platinum and Platinum Masters championships. I believe this year will be the best ever for the Mark Motors racing team.”
The Ultra94 Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Canada by Yokohama season opener at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, the first of six race weekends in 2016, will consist of a pair of 45-minute races, one each on Saturday and Sunday of the historic facility’s first major race weekend of the season, Victoria Day SpeedFest.
